A Story to Be Told. A Vision to Unfold.

Daniel O. Mercado Medical Center held a weeklong celebration of its 50th year in service last June 25-29, 2007. DMMC’s 50th Anniversary takes to center stage the half a century existence of Daniel O. Mercado Medical Center in the healthcare setting. The theme “DMMC at 50: A Story to be told. A Vision to unfold.” reinforces the vital role that DMMC has and will continue to provide quality healthcare services to its patients, most especially to the City of Tanauan’s citizenry.

The objectives of the celebration are to bring added visibility and recognition to the hospital, its programs and people; to increase participation and support for the hospital; to strengthen the bonds between the hospital and the community at large; to highlight DMMC’s plans for the future; and to build an even stronger sense of solidarity for doctors, employees, stockholders, suppliers and partners.

The weeklong celebration started with a morning parade participated with doctors and employees followed by the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Photo Exhibit displayed at the Old OPD Lobby. The Photo Exhibit showed the growth of the hospital from a humble Mercado Clinic with only three rooms with four beds per room and three employees, to a grand 100 bed tertiary level 4 medical facility with over three hundred resident physicians and employees all under its roof. Dr. Arthur Mercado, who just arrived from US, delivered a brief but very inspiring message to the employees prior to the ribbon-cutting ceremony. In the afternoon, Employee’s Bingo was held at the EMMP Concessionaire Area.

The following day started with a Mass at 8:30 in the morning. The mass was also offered in memory of the late Dr. Daniel O. Mercado. After that, a Free Clinic was held at the EMMP Concessionaire Area participated by DMMC Doctors, Medical Secretaries, Nurses, and DMMC-IHS students. The free clinic was carried out until three in the afternoon and benefited almost five hundred OPD patients. The newly constructed Laboratory Complex was also blessed after the Mass.

The third day of the weeklong celebration marked the inauguration of the TQM Marker which was put up at the DMMC Lobby. A Medical Symposium on the “Updates on the application of Laser Technology in Dermatology and related fields” was also held at the 4th floor DMMC Nursing Skills Laboratory.

Then came Thursday, which was a very special event for DMMC employees. At 6:00 pm, all employees came in their chosen attire, all in their bright faces and excited auras. It was the Employee’s Night. It was a night of song, dance, awards, food, and
a bunch of fun and enjoyment for everybody. The Audio-Visual Presentation of DMMC’s humble beginnings to its continued achievements and developments were shown to the employees. A raffle of gift certificates and other exciting items also lifted everybody’s mood. An awarding ceremony was also prepared to honor those employees who have shown a great deal of dedication, loyalty and passion to their work. Awards given were Service and Loyalty Awards for those employees who have rendered specific number of years to the hospital, Perfect Attendance Award for those employees who have no records of absences and tardiness for a specific span of time, Model Employee of the Year for the lucky employee who has been a good example of genuine dedication and love for his work, a nd Department Head of the Year for the chosen employee who has shown good leadership capabilities to his subordinates. In line with the institution of Total Quality Management in DMMC, the hospital also formally launched the 5S Program through an Audio-Visual Presentation. After the program, the employees shared some great night of fun and music as they jammed with the live band performer of the event.

Finally, the last day of the celebration came. A Dinner with the Doctors, Dignitaries, and Corporate Clients and Partners was held at DMMC-Institute of Health Sciences at 6:00 in the evening. Among the dignitaries who graced the event were Batangas Vice-Governor Mark Leviste, Congresswoman Vicky Hernandez-Reyes, Ambassador Macario Laurel, Mr. Ben Carandang (who represented Tanauan City Mayor Sonia Torres-Aquino), Vice-Mayor Julius Platon, and several City Councilors. The Physician of the Year award which was given to Dra. Janet De Grano was also awarded during the night. After the program, a Fireworks Display lit up the sky to finally conclude the weeklong celebration.

DMMC gave away memorabilias like Employees Mugs, Corporate Paperweights, Quality Polo Shirts, and Souvenir Program.
