Dr. Restita Moncayo
Physician of the Year

With an assuring glow of sincerity on her face, she welcomes the patients who enter her clinic. Like a long-time friend, she starts a cordial conversation and listens to what they have to say. In the process, she expertly evaluates the patients, medically and psychologically---a total approach, focusing not only on specific diseases but on the patients’ total well-being. With expertise and compassion, she gives her advice and the actions they have to take. Feeling safe and assured at the hands of a caring doctor, the patients leave her clinic and will someday return to thank her for making them well again. That’s a typical day in the life of Dr. Restita Moncayo, the recipient of the DMMC Physician of the Year Award for 2007.
“ A compassionate doctor who makes a diffe-
rence in the lives of her patients. ” These are the words that best describe Dr. Restita Moncayo. Indeed, she has the traits every effective doctor possesses--- empathy towards patients, caring attitude, professional integrity, and a great deal of patience and understanding. As such it’s no surprise that Dr. Moncayo is endeared to her patients as well as her staff and colleagues at DMMC. It’s also not a surprise that even “faith healers” seek her help for ailments they cannot remedy.
The desire to serve began early in Dr. Moncayo’s life---inspired by her father, a public servant who dedicatedly served his constituents. She could have taken an engineering course, but her father convinced her to pursue medicine so she could be an instrument of service to many people. Becoming a doctor was a decision that would prove to be a blessing not only for herself but to her patients as well.
Being a doctor led her to DMMC where she
found her destiny, both in the professional and
personal sense. Indeed, at DMMC she met Dr. Andy Villadelgado , the soul mate that would transform her life. “ Meeting Dr. Andy was one
of the best things that happened to me“ , Dr. Moncayo said, her eyes sparkling with inspiration.
Dr. Moncayo is an advocate of harmony and balance. She believes that there is a time and place for everything. As such, she finds ways to balance her time for career and personal life. Besides taking care of her patients and family, Dr. Moncayo also takes care of herself with aregimen of physical activities like mountain biking, tennis and the like. That makes her a complete person, finding fulfilment and happiness in life.
As Dr. Moncayo makes her rounds at the hospital and as she walks along the hallways of DMMC, one can sense an aura of serenity in her persona. That’s the manifestation of a person who has found the true secrets of living.
